ktvu channel 2 reporter lorraine blanco is back at beachwood elementary school. you covered the fire. now the investigation lorraine. >> reporter: pam the menlo fire park chief says there was no monitored fire aloom system in place and no sprinkler in place. i talked with the executive director of the california family foundation system they run the beachwood school here. they are here picking up the wreckage. they tell us there is a fire alarm system in place. it's just not monitored. the fire here at the nonprofit private school started just before 4:00 a.m. yesterday and it took three hours to get under control. these types of modular buildings are intended to be temporary structures. they are not required to have the alarm systems or sprinklers. the warning systems could have prevented the fire from becoming as large as it did. >> there is a fire alarm system in place and our students are well schooled at fire drill. we do them regularly. the fire alarm system just isn't monitored. so that when there is no one here at night, the fire alarm doesn't go directly
